The Central Florida area is much more than the many theme parks people from all over the world flock to every year. There is beautiful nature to explore right outside your apartment near Full Sail University, and canoeing or kayaking is the perfect way to explore all the natural beauty in our area. These activities are great for all age ranges and experience levels, and it is also a pretty inexpensive activity that works for your Orlando student budget. We compiled a list below of some places that will get you out on the water exploring your surroundings.
EPIC PADDLE ADVENTURES
Epic Paddle Adventures is located in downtown Orlando. They offer paddleboard and kayak rentals and specialty tours for the area's most popular destinations, including Wekiva Springs and Silver Springs. Paddle with your pup or bunny, paddle to see dolphins, or manatees, whatever your adventure they have it.
PEACE OF MIND KAYAK TOURS AND RENTALS
Peace of Mind offers kayak tours, rentals, specialty trips, and instruction all over the central Florida area, with a new location in Clermont at Crooked River Preserve.
The following three destinations are in the Apopka area, just northwest of your Full Sail apartment.
WEKIVA ISLAND
The first stop is Wekiva Island, one of the coolest spots along the Wekiva River. You can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards or just hang out on land at The Tooting Otter Craft Beer & Wine Bar. You can play volleyball, sweet, or rent a private cabana.
WEKIWA SPRINGS STATE PARK
Next, just two miles down the road, you will find Wekiwa Springs. Canoe and kayak rentals are available inside the park from the concession, or you can enter the park from any launch site along the Wekiva River or Rock Springs Run.
KING'S LANDING
From King's Landing, you can rent a canoe or kayak for the day to explore Rock Springs Run, or they also offer shuttle services to locations such as Wekiva Island. They offer tours, river camp options, cabins, and a campground, perfect weekend trip away from your apartment near Full Sail.
BUENA VISTA WATERSPORTS
In the heart of the Lake Buena Vista (Disney) area, you can explore Lake Bryan by kayak, paddleboard, pontoon boat, or jet ski. They also offer lessons for wake surfing, water skiing, tubing, and more.
The final two locations to canoe or kayak around your Full Sail Apartment are perfect for a day trip and just further north along I-4, but we promise they are well worth the hour-long journey.
DE LEÓN SPRINGS STATE PARK
This park is a must for anyone that lives in the Orlando area. You can swim in the springs, go on a boat tour, and rent a canoe or kayak to explore the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge. The popular Sugar Mill Restaurant where you make your own pancakes at your table is located inside the park, a fun activity for all ages.
BLUE SPRINGS STATE PARK
Due to this park being a safe haven for the West Indian manatee in the winter season, the spring and spring run are closed for canoeing and kayaking, but rentals are still available to paddle down the St. John's River. You can also swim in the park, and boat tours on the St. John's are also available.
