Say it isn't so, Knight Library, FUBAR, Lazy Moon and all of those landmarks are gone! Already being built are some brand spanking new apartment units that are really going to give the UCF area a downtown flavor. Currently undergoing the first phases of construction, these apartments are going to transform the corner of University Blvd and Alafaya Trl into a student-friendly location. To see the previews of what the location will look like check out the concept video here.
The first thing you may have noticed is that there is room for shops on the first floor. Townhouse style apartments will occupy the 2nd thru 5th floors. With about 50,000 students right across the street, there looks to be plenty of room for shops to occupy the first floor that you'll frequent. The dream of waking up and making your way downstairs to shop may be a reality! Who wouldn't love to live in a downtown-style townhouse without the sky-high big city rent?
Appropriately named Plaza on University, will be the place to live for students looking for luxury living and close proximity to shops. Details are light at this point what kind of prices or room layouts there will be but this project looks promising!
As for the displaced bars and restaurants
Local favorites Lazy Moon and Knight Library have already found new locations. Check out Knight Library now across the street from World of Beer at the former Houlihans. Lazy Moon opened in the plaza with World of Beer, FirstWatch and Pei Wei. You should be excited about all of the new development in the area! Here's a list of displaced establishments and where they are relocating.
10-level parking?!
Parking near UCF has never been an easy feat. What's a pleasant surprise here is the 10-level parking garage right smack in the center of this Plaza. You heard that right – 10 levels. That means a TON of students will be calling this place home. Don't worry shoppers, there is parking on the first floor in front of the shops as well.
When will Plaza on University be finished?
Look out for this community in 2014 with next Fall a possibility. Details are light at this point so I will update as construction is underway. 407Apartments is certainly excited about the new development and incoming students should be as well!
