As someone who has been watching central Florida sports teams her whole life, I know that there is nothing quite like getting into the thrill of the game! Fortunately for you, the University of Central Florida and the surrounding Orlando area have plenty to offer in terms of sports teams, with various levels and types represented across the city. Just a quick trip from UCF apartments, you can catch all kinds of sports teams live and in-person.
University of Central Florida Sports Teams
When you live in the apartments near UCF, you're also only minutes away from the university's great sports teams. There are 16 different teams you can root for in-person -- at least, so long as it's a home game. Pick your favorites, or make an effort to attend games for all of the following sports:
- Baseball
- Basketball, both men's and women's
- Cheer/Dance
- Cross Country
- Football
- Golf, both men's and women's
- Rowing
- Soccer, both men's and women's
- Softball
- Tennis, both men's and women's
- Track and Field
- Volleyball
For more information on the teams, I definitely recommend checking out the UCF Athletics website. They have all the details on the game schedule and latest news for each team, as well as more insight into traffic and current promotions.
If you're unsure which games to prioritize, find out when UCF is playing USF, and start there. The rivalry between the two teams is known as "The War On I-4" since the universities are separated by Interstate 4 (I-4), and these events bring in hundreds of fans from both sides. It's a great way to get your feet wet in UCF athletics!
Orlando Professional Sports Teams
Orlando boasts three professional sports teams, with home matches a quick drive away from UCF apartments. If you're into the major league, your options are:
In addition to these, the Orlando area has plenty of semi-pro and minor league teams you can catch live, like the Florida Fire Frogs (MILB), who play their games in Kissimmee, and the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL), who also play at Amway Center. With all the teams in the area, you could easily fill up your calendar with games to check out.
Sports Bars
If you already have your favorite teams, and you just need a spot with an awesome atmosphere to watch it, the city has plenty of those too. I would recommend trying Castaways, which offers all-you-can-eat wings every Wednesday, or Social House, which has 20 big screen TVs to showcase different games and sports. There are so many great spots for you to catch whatever game(s) you're into; you just need to find the one that works best for you! I'm rooting for you (and for the Knights).
