Top 3 Underrated Study Spots at UCF (That Aren't the Library)
We all know and love the iconic John C. Hitt Library at the University of Central Florida—but let's be honest, it can get overwhelmingly crowded. And if you're anything like me, you may have unintentionally turned it into more of a social hangout than a productive study space. Or maybe you wanna step away from your fully-furnished apartment near UCF that although comes equipped with a desk, you feel you need a change of pace. Over the semesters, I've learned to branch out and explore quieter corners of campus to actually get things done. Thankfully, UCF is full of underrated study spots. If you're looking to switch up your study routine, here are my top three go-to places.
1. The Engineering II Atrium
If you haven't studied in the Engineering II building, you're missing out. The open space between Engineering I and Engineering II has a sleek, productive energy— everyone is there to get things done. What makes it a top choice for me are the numerous whiteboard tables scattered throughout the space. Yes— the tables are actual whiteboards. Whether you're solo or with a group, those tables are perfect for jotting down ideas or working out complex problems without needing to bring extra supplies. And if you don't have dry-erase markers, no worries—you can borrow some for free from the library's circulation desk on your way over.
2. Trevor Colbourn Hall (TCH)
Trevor Colbourn Hall (TCH), just a five-minute walk from the College of Sciences, has quickly become one of my favorite study hideouts—especially when I need a quiet spot on short notice. The building is clean, modern, and often overlooked. Across its three floors, you'll find plenty of desks, study spaces, and lounge areas to settle into. Need help with a writing assignment? You can also stop by the Writing Success Center for feedback and support. One of the best perks of TCH? There's almost always an empty classroom available, which makes it perfect for locking in solo or studying with a group.
3. The 4th Floor of L3 Harris Engineering Center
Chances are, if you've been in the HEC, it was for a lab, a class, or maybe to visit a professor's office hours. But if you've never ventured up to the fourth floor… do it. Seriously. It's quiet, has a few tucked-away tables, and gives you a really nice view over campus. Something about studying up there makes you feel a little more calm and collected—even if you're panicking about an exam. If you're an engineering student and live an apartment near the College of Engineering and Computer Science, this is definitely the spot for you.
Final Thoughts:

Whether you're grinding out an assignment or just looking for a peaceful place to read, these three spots are worth checking out. Sometimes, all you need to get back on track is a change of scenery—and maybe a whiteboard table or a rooftop view.
