With the University of Central Florida being one of the largest universities for student enrollment in the country, attending a school with such a large student population can prove to be hectic at times. This is especially true if you already live in or are actively looking to live at any of the apartments near UCF's downtown campus.

Although living downtown has its perks, at the end of the day it's nice to come back to a space of your own. If you prefer a secluded room, there are a multitude of one-bedroom apartments near UCF that can offer you more privacy. If you prefer the company of roommates and still want to build a personalized sanctuary for yourself, Feng Shui is a feasible option for you.

Feng Shui Explained

If you aren't familiar with Feng Shui, it is an ancient Chinese cosmological practice that focuses on the five natural elements and their balance and consistency within a space. Its philosophy is based on the principle that all things omit energy and certain energies can either enrich or interfere with the spaces humans occupy and their natural energies as well. Despite seeming complicated and even intimidating at first, Feng Shui is amazingly simple to achieve, even in your UCF apartment.

Whether you really want to get into it or you just appreciate the picturesque balance of a good Feng Shui'd space, listed below are some of the most important things you can do in any of the apartments near UCF to create your dream space with ease.

Understanding Furniture Orientation in your UCF Apartment

A crucial aspect of Feng Shui is knowing the correct way to arrange your furniture and how furniture is placed within a space. There needs to be some element of symmetry to designs and objects because, like Yin and Yang, everything in nature requires balance and equilibrium. This means two bedside tables on each side of the bed, no clutter underneath your bed, and a wooden headboard for stability. Things should mirror each other perfectly and keeping a clean and tidy space helps energy flow consistently.

Embracing the Five Natural Elements in Apartments Near UCF

Feng Shui can only be achieved when all five of the natural elements; wood, earth, water, fire, and metal, are present. Some of the furniture in your apartment might already represent these elements. To know if this is true for your current living situation, I will break down each of the five elements with examples.

Wood

Some of the best examples of wood are plants and furniture made of wood. As mentioned earlier, apartments with balconies and patios can allow you to grow flowers, orchids, herbs, and any other form of greenery that you might want to liven up your space.

Earth

For earth, this can be achieved with something as simple as your favorite landscape painting or even earthy tones and fabrics on your couch, chairs, tables, and bed. As long as you buy or own furniture with neutral tones of green, brown, or sand beige, you will be successful.

Water

You might be thinking, how will water be represented in my UCF apartment without actually having water here? Well, mirrors and reflective surfaces represent this element without water being present. Most apartments come with a mirror and if you don't already have one, they are really easy to find and purchase on your own.

Fire

Natural light is a great example of fire. The great thing about living near the University of Central Florida is that there are a lot of opportunities to get natural light to come into your apartment. The sun is always shining and there are a lot of apartments that come with patios and balconies.

Metal

Simply enough, any kind of rock or stone is compatible with this element of Feng Shui. Now unless you are really into crystal and rock collecting this might seem impossible to do. Well, luckily for you, there are actually quite a few apartments that incorporate granite or stone countertops and floors for aesthetic appeal.

At the end of the day, it's not unreasonable to require your personal space. Even if you live by yourself or live in one of the four-bedroom apartments near UCF, Feng Shui can allow you to customize and control your space in an energy-positive way.
