My new Full Sail apartment has a small living room. Do you have any design tips?

Decorating any small room has its challenges, but when you are presented with an undersized living room, that can present another set of problems. First off, this is the room you will most likely be spending most of your time in, so you want to make sure you feel comfortable in it. How do you make this room feel spacious, yet fit in extra seating and storage? Well my friends, luckily there are a few tips and tricks to make any small living rooms in apartments near Full Sail feel full-sized!

One of the oldest tricks in the book when it comes to making any room feel larger is by using mirrors. The same goes for pint-sized living rooms in Full Sail apartments! Either using a hanging mirror or a floor-length one leaned against a well will create the illusion of depth in a room. It works even better if your living room happens to have high ceilings. Another trick has to do with the material of the furniture you decorate with. If you're running low on space but still need a functional coffee table or end table, try using pieces made of clear acrylic or glass. These give the furniture almost an "invisible" look, yet still remain as a functional piece.

If the apartments near Full Sail that you're falling in love with happen to all have smaller living spaces, maybe it is time to rethink bringing along your 6-piece sectional sofa. Downsizing the couch that you have, to a smaller sofa or even a loveseat could save you a ton of space in the long run. Go ahead and sell your current couch and use that cash for a brand new chaise lounge! Some residents may even opt to skip the sofa all together and go with oversized, comfy chairs or recliners. Especially if it's just you, living in a studio or one bedroom apartment, you don't necessarily need a lot of seating space. Antique and thrift stores are great places to find smaller furniture.

Let's say you are interested in Full Sail apartments with a smaller living area, but you also love to entertain. Maybe you cannot get away with utilizing an oversized chair and need more seating space. Try utilizing multi-functional furniture, such as ottomans that work as coffee tables or seats that have hidden storage underneath.

Much like mirrors, plants are a great way to add depth to a small living room in apartments near Full Sail. Greenery softens corners and tricks the eye into thinking there is more space to the room than there really is. They work very well in corners and behind or beside couches or chairs.

The biggest thing to remember when decorating your new apartment is to have fun! There are so many colors, textures and items to experiment with when decorating a smaller space.
