Convenient shopping is offered in several nearby strip mall areas and Colonial Drive (SR 50) is just on the other side of the 408, offering the Orlando Fashion Square mall and several re-developed shopping areas. Looking for a sweet treat? Since 1971, Charlie’s Gourmet Pastries located in the Dover Springs Shopping Center, has been tempting taste buds with cakes, cookies, and homemade pastries. Head east on the 408 a few exits, and enjoy a plethora of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment at the outdoor Waterford Lakes shopping center.
Conway is only about ten minutes from downtown Orlando, which means that Conway apartment renters can enjoy Orlando’s revamped city-life, but still be able to go home to a more relaxed, homey neighborhood away from tourist areas. There are also several parks in Conway, including Lake Underhill Park and the Fort Gatlin Recreation Center which features an Olympic-size pool and basketball & tennis courts. Other schools in the area that earned either a “B” or “C” rating in 2012 include Pershing Elementary School, Conway Elementary School, Lake Como Elementary School, Ventura Elementary, Passport Charter School, Stonewall Jackson Middle School, Colonial High School and Boone High School.
The Conway Business Community
Conway businesses consist mostly of strip-mall type shopping centers and small businesses. You’ll also find several doctors’ offices, grocery stores and restaurants located close to apartments in Conway. A short drive to downtown, Conway is convenient for professionals who work in the downtown area, the up-and-coming Lake Nona area and UCF.
Shopping In Conway
While shopping in Conway is limited to strip-mall type shopping centers, the Orlando Fashion Square Mall is a few blocks away on the other side of the 408 and features several department stores including Sears and JC Penney as well as a movie theatre. Several Publix grocery stores serve the Conway area with stores located on Hoffner Avenue, Curry Ford Road, and S. Semoran.
Conway is also a short drive to the bustling Florida Mall and Outlet Malls. Just a 20 minute drive takes you to the Mall at Millenia, featuring high-end luxury stores, department stores including Bloomingdales and Macy’s, and several outlying stores including IKEA. Conway is a ten-minute drive from downtown Orlando, providing easy access from your apartment to all of the shopping and dining located there as well.
Traffic And Driving In Conway
Traffic and driving in Conway and southeast Orlando is usually pretty tame with several large roads taking you to all points of Orlando. Utilizing an E-Pass/SunPass toll transponder will help your commute zoom by even faster. Major intersections in Conway include the corner of Conway Road and Hoffner Avenue, the corner of Conway Road and Curry Ford Road, the corner of Conway Road and Michigan Avenue, and Conway Road and Gatlin Avenue. Conway also has nearby access to the East-West Expressway (SR 408), the Orange County Expressway (SR 417), Interstate 4, and the BeachLine, formerly known as the Beeline (SR 528). Most people who live in Conway apartments probably commute to work in either downtown Orlando, the newly developed medical area of Lake Nona, or to other more metropolitan areas of Orlando.
